soundtrack series: january

So, that’s it. January is done and dusted and we are well on our way into the New Year. Where did that first month go?

Amongst the many family visits, deadline drafts, and welcome back socials, I’ve been listening to some absolute bangers this month.

In no particular order, here are my top five of 2018 so far…

1. The Greatest Showman Soundrack

Oh. My. Goodness.

What a series of incredible tunes, with amazing vocals and orchestral backing. This Is Me and Rewrite The Stars are two of my firm favourites, but The Greatest Show, and Tightrope are just incredible examples of movie scores done well. Hats off. I am well and truly wishing I can be part of a musical circus when I grow up.

2. Stormzy feat. Mnek

Not a usual choice for me, but one I love. I think it’s the power of the song and the lyrics which really captivated me. I’m not one for loud, fast rap, but this was anything but. Tranquil, calm, and reflective I enjoyed listening to it in the background, as well as humming along whilst typing away on the keyboard.

3. Liam Payne and Rita Ora

For You was released as part of the soundtrack for the new Fifty Shades film, but that’s not why I enjoyed it. The song is eerie whilst being upbeat and dramatic. Definitely one to sing along to in the car (although I’m yet to perfect all the words.)

4. Chainsmokers and Coldplay

Something just like this is like a blast from Christmas past. With a magical, twinkliness to it I was quickly captivated. I could listen to Coldplay all day long, but this, I could have on repeat forever.

5. The Cranberries

My dad will be pleased with this choice. I am a huge fan of The Cranberries (probably under his influence) and Linger has been on repeat several times this month, with no explanation other that it is an absolute tune.

What have you been listening to so far this year? Let me know!

love sophie
